Artist Reflections at Hotel Indigo

A Cayman Art Week Moment with Cera-Tan & Giselah Ebanks

Cayman Art Week invited us to slow down and trace the quiet threads between worlds that don’t often meet. At Hotel Indigo, we experienced one of those rare moments of connection—between art, aviation, and island pride.

Inside Catalina, two large-scale portraits greet you. Created by artist and documenter Cera-Tan Kennaird, they honour the spirit of trailblazing Caymanian pilots First Officer Giselah Ebanks and Captain Crystal Godet. These paintings have been on display since the hotel opened, floating at the entrance like soft declarations of presence and power. But this week, we gathered to reflect on the story behind them.

At just 20 years old, Giselah made history as one of Cayman Airways’ youngest pilots. In conversation with Cera-Tan, her journey took shape not just in words, but in energy—translated through brushstrokes, colour, and texture.

“Before I even began painting,” Cera-Tan shared, “I sat with her. I listened. I absolutely loved Giselah’s smile and her teeth—it was such a beautiful characteristic, and I wanted it to shine.”

This wasn’t just a panel. It was a witnessing.

The evening unfolded like a love note to culture and craft. Chef Alisa Ali and her team created pastries inspired by the art and infused with flavours that felt like home: mango, tamarind, lime, passionfruit, and coconut. Other local artists were also invited to honour the space, adding their own reflections to the room.

It all served as a soft reminder:
When thoughtfully curated, hotels can become more than places to stay.
They can hold memory. Honour culture. Showcase who we are and what we value.

Reflection prompt:
What spaces do you return to again and again? And how have they shaped who you are?
